Uncertain Faith

Finding the courgage to live with uncertainity

Hood-winked by Trump

I’m both fascinated and disturbed by the success of Donald Trump’s campaign.  Like most people I can’t seem to get enough of Trump.  He has turned dry debates into must see television.  The media can’t explain how he has taken American by storm.  The Republican Party “establishment” wishes he would go away, but now they have to deal with the real possibility of Trump being the GOP nominee.  Even though I’m fascinated by Trump and his presidential bid, I’m disturbed by how he has captured the fancy of so many Evangelical Christians.  Is Donald Trump a Christian?  This is the wrong question.  The right question is:  Does he echo the words of Jesus and do his actions line up with those of the man from Nazareth as recorded in the Gospels?

I can be a judge here.  Donald Trump says we need to be first.  Jesus said we should be last.  Donald Trump hurls insults at his opponents. When insulted, Jesus “turned the other cheek”.  Donald Trump sows seeds of fear.  Jesus sowed seeds of hope.  Donald Trump wants to build walls.  Jesus tore down walls.  Let’s judge Donald Trump by measuring his words and actions against those of the Jesus we know from the Gospels.
